Anthony May Obituary

   Anthony James May, Sr

  July 19, 1941-July 1, 2020

Anthony James May, 78 years old, went home to be with his Father and Lord on July 1, 2020.  Anthony, affectionately known as Tony, died peacefully in his sleep after a short bout with cancer.   Anthony was the son of George and Gertrude May from Baltimore, Maryland.  Tony grew up in Holland town, within the inner city of Baltimore; where he attended Patterson High School and was an avid baseball and soccer player.

Tony enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served honorably from 1960-1964.  After his return to Baltimore, he married Fran Bognanni.  Tony and Fran had 2 children, Tony and Melissa.  During their marriage, Tony worked at Federal Armored Express, where he advanced to Vice-President and was later transferred to Richmond, Virginia in 1976, also as the company’s Vice-President.   Tony and Fran divorced in 1975 and Fran passed away in 1979.

Tony met Katherine McGeorge and her two children,  John and Melanie, during his time in Richmond. Tony and Katherine were married in 1978; had their 1st son, Joshua, and moved to Greenville, NC in 1981 with Tony’s job as Quality Controller with Hexagon Honeycomb.

Tony would change his name to Anthony in 1981 after receiving Christ as his Savior. During his early years in NC from 1981-1985, Anthony served on ministry teams at Four Square and Landmark Baptist Church.  During that time, Anthony worked for different companies, in the customer service field and in 1988 Anthony and Katherine had their 2nd son, Joseph.

In 1979, Anthony began his 19- year career with Terminix, serving as Manager in both the Washington and Greenville, NC offices.  In 1992, Anthony became a part of GCF Church and later Wave Church where he also served in several ministry capacities.

Anthony enjoyed watching his children play sports and took many opportunities to drive them to their out-of-town sporting events.  He also shared in coaching some of boy’s baseball teams and was an always present fan on the sidelines.

Anthony will be best remembered for never knowing a stranger or missing an opportunity to flash family, friends and strangers his enigmatic smile that let you know Anthony was in the room. He had a great sense of humor and could find laughter in just about any situation.
