"Our beloved Arthur Lee Ellison, son of the late Joseph Mack and Nellie Ellison, departed this earthly life on Monday, August 23, 2021.
He was born April 26, 1933 in Martin County, North Carolina. Arthur received his education in the public schools of North Carolina.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Lois Ellison.
Mr. Ellison worked several jobs in his lifetime with Goldfinger Furniture Store, Hercules Inc. and retired from W.W. Henry Company as a General Labor/Machine Operator.
But in his leisure time, he was a true outdoor sportsman who really loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed sports, especially baseball- The New York Mets. He will always be fondly remembered for his constant demands to follow his specifically instructions and Lord help you if you didn’t. Arthur will be deeply missed by friends, family, and all who knew him.
Preceding him in death were six brothers: Moses, Charlie, Joe Mack, Arlester and William, Simon Ellison, and seven sisters: Minnie Richardson, Arister Staton, Mamie Best, Addie Willis, Manervia Williams, Gladys Bunns and Mary Cross.
He leaves to cherish his memories, one daughter: Monica Ellison of Newark, New Jersey; three sons: Arthur Ellison Jr. of Newark, New Jersey, Bernard Ellison (Wanda) of Augusta, Georgia, and Mack Ellison of Newark, New Jersey; eight grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren; one sister, Nannie Dockery of Richmond, Virginia; one brother, James Ellison of Newark, New Jersey; one sister-in-law, Christine Ellison of Washington, DC.
Our family wishes to give special thanks to Herbert Wilson, Ronald Boyette, Philip Dolberry, Ronnie Mathewson, Tommy Drone and several others who visited often to keep him company and remain upbeat. We also give thanks to his devoted caretakers and reliable landscapers.
Last, but certainly not least, we extended our gratitude to his dear nephew Perry ‘Gene’ Best, who supported and guided him on a healthy path when he became somewhat frail; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
