George (aka Melvin) Freeman was born August 5, 1948 to the late General Columbus and Helen
Smith Freeman. He departed this life at his residence May 1, 2021.
Melvin attended Pitt County Schools and later joined the United States Army in 1966 and served
until 1969. He had several duty stations while in the Army with the most memorable tour being
in Korea from the many stories he would tell family and friends.
After serving in the United States Army, he lived in Bronx New York and later joined his
brothers and sisters in New Haven CT. He later returned back to Williamston NC and worked as
a Master ASE Certified Automotive Technician at Roanoke Chevrolet and left that dealership for
a better opportunity at Brown and Wood Buick Cadillac. While at the dealerships he developed
a great rapport with the customers who would request him by name to repair the vehicles. There
was never a problem too small or too large for him to master. He was very proud of his work!
Melvin enjoyed his family and spent time with them singing and listening to music. He was a
true mentor to family members and will truly be missed. Our hearts will be saddened but our
memories of him will never fade.
