Ms. Gwendolyn Faye Ebron Whitehurst, 67, of 3005 Caldwell Drive, Apt 13, Greenville, North Carolina, transitioned Saturday, August 8, 2020. The Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 12:00 Noon, Sycamore Chapel Baptist Church, 1610 Farmville, Blvd, Greenville, North Carolina 27834. The viewing will be held one hour prior to service. A private burial is scheduled for a later date.
Ms. Gwendolyn Ebron Whitehurst was born on February 9, 1953 to the parentage of the late Elijah Ebron and Virginia Wilson Ebron in Greenville, North Carolina. She was educated in the Pitt County School System, and was a 1972 graduate of J.H Rose High School. She furthered her education at Pitt Community College, graduating with a teaching certificate. She worked at Shoney’s, in the classroom as a teacher’s aide at Stokes Elementary School, and at Home Builders Bargain Center.
“Gwen” or “Grandma”, as she was affectionately called, had a heart of gold. Despite what others saw or thought, she was always able to find the best in everyone that she met. Gwen would go out of her way to help anyone, with a genuine heart that asked for nothing in return. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend who loved life and people. Gwen loved to talk and make others laugh. She was a long-standing member of the Ruff and Ready Volunteer Fire Auxiliary. Gwen’s favorite past time was spending time with her family.
Despite her many ailments, Gwen was able to make the best of the life she had been given and found the energy to praise God. One of her greatest attributes was to make everyone feel welcomed. She loved cooking and feeding everyone who visited her home. She was quick to listen and offer words of encouragement when needed.
On Saturday, August 8, 2020, Gwen heard the voice of God say, “Well done my child. Your work here is done”. She answered the call and transitioned to glory. She leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy, two sons, Ephrain Whitehurst (Denise) of Casa Grande, Arizona, and Maurice Whitehurst (Demetria) of Baltimore, Maryland; One sister, Patricia Ebron of Dover, Delaware; One brother, Elijah Ebron of Greenville, NC; and a host of aunts, uncles, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
