Helen Jones Obituary

With humble acceptance of God's will, the Jones family wishes to announce the passing of Helen Jones, age 68, of Chocowinity, North Carolina.

Helen “Little Helen” Jones was born on July 19, 1954, to the Late William Keyes and Dorothy Simmons in Washington, NC. Helen was raised by John and Queenie Moore. Helen attended Beaufort County Schools and began life in the work field at a young age to support her family. At a young age, Helen, attended Mary’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and accepted Christ into her life, where she was a member of the choir. Throughout Helen’s life, singing became a lifestyle for her and she was well known for her dynamic voice from such a small person. Helen and some family members and friend created a gospel group known as “The Silver Gates” singing at many churches and events. Helen was well known and loved all over Beaufort County. Known for a woman the size of an ant with the heart of a lion. Also known to her friends as “HellCat”. A name that she lived up to in all aspects. Helen had a heart of Gold and would feed anyone, house anyone that needed it, and take care of many children (called either “mama Helen” or “Aunt Helen”). Helen would also speak her mind without hesitation. You would find Helen going to family members houses checking on them or on the phone with her favorite cousin/Best Friend Bishop Carlton Keyes, cousin Nita Pope, her late Favorite Aunt Almeta Pope In her leisure, she enjoyed fishing before her health declined, singing, puzzles, sewing, watching TV, spending time with her companion and talking about how proud she was of her Son, Daughter-in-law, her precious dog “BoBo’, and her grandchildren especially her “Beautiful Big Eyed Great-Grandbaby”. Helen gained her wings and took flight to depart this life on November 8, 2022. She was preceded in death by her Parents, three brothers and two sisters, close cousins: Emma Best, Peggy Moore, and Hattie Daniels. Helen leaves to cherish her memories: A devoted companion: Jesse Hopkins, Jr; Son Clifton Jones (Chenequa), Grandchildren: Alexis Jones, Mya Danyelle Langley, Dynasia Jones, Takisha Whichard, Jalen Whichard, and Jaquon Whichard; Kaleb Taylor, Great-Granddaughter Zyniyah. God-Granddaughter Aurianna Millard; Stepson Mosley Jones; Godsons; Ernest Daniels and David Jones; Goddaughter Latonya Pope; Brothers: Joseph “Terry” Lawrence, Clifton Crawford, Tyrone Pope; Sister: Dorothy Cannon (Henry).
