Larry Dean Tetterton was the son of Jesse “JC” Artis and Geneva Tetterton Gatlin. He was born June 22, 1951 in Beaufort County, North Carolina. His departure from this present world was on Sunday, July 5, 2020. Larry was raised by his maternal grandmother, Minnie Taft (Putt) and Charlie Taft (Dad) who preceded him in death. He loved them with his whole heart. He was also preceded in death by his father, Jesse Artis, his brother Jerome Gatlin and his great grandson Prince Kyshon Denmark.
Larry was a bus operator for New Jersey Transit for over 35 years. After retirement, he continued driving charters by picking up groups, putting on some rocking music, having a barrel of laughs, dropping his seat down low, always exceeding the speed limit and running Bayshore Bus #500 just as fast as it would go!
Larry was full of life, free spirited, generous and extremely positive. One of his greatest passions was the adrenaline rush that he got from drag racing; spectating and participating. He was just an all-around lovable and fun guy. He could take any situation and make it comical. Larry always had a joke to tell.
Larry leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 48 years, Brenda White Tetterton; two children, Derrick Tetterton and Mylove Tetterton Hodges (Anthony), bonus children; Mook and Big Dre; his mother, Geneva Gatlin (James); step-mother Evonne Artis; siblings: Shedrick, Karl, Tony, Eugene (Dawn), Frederick, Beverly, Beryl and Valarie (Tyree). Ten grandchildren, Mimi, Javon, Mylove, Jr., Khyreq, Tyshon, Taiji, Justice, Mi'Amor, Prince Anthony and My'Amor; two great grandchildren, Jahlil and Messiah; one aunt, JoAnne (Monroe) Rountree; two uncles; Paul Gatlin and Edward “EC” Artis; one great aunt, Ellometha Hueston, in-laws; Betty Washington, Valorie Nelson and Carl White; nieces and nephews; James, Tashia, Geisha and Kyanza. Four special brothers, Raymond Wilkerson (Jennifer), John DuBose (Mary), Ralph Paylor (Renee) and Charles Ball. He also leaves many cherished relationships; one dear to his heart, Lillian Thompson Cherry, whom he considered a Godmother.
