Lester Hooker Obituary

Lester Earl Hooker was born on September 16, 1938, in Blounts Creek, North Carolina, to Ophelia Willis and David Aldridge.  At a very young age, Lester was adopted and raised by Ed and Harriet Ann Hooker.  His biological and adoptive parents, and brother Marvin Moore preceded him in death.

Lester attended the Ware Creek Rosenwald School and the Aurora Colored Schools in Beaufort County, North Carolina.  Upon graduating from high school, Lester went to New York City to seek job opportunities.  He found work at Stouffer’s Restaurant on 5th Avenue, New York City.  There he met the love of his life, Annie Cobb, and they were married in 1970, in Belhaven, North Carolina, on the waterfront.  After their wedding, they returned to NYC, and remained there until 1972, when they relocated to Blounts Creek, North Carolina.  Lester acquired a job at Singer Furniture and worked with that company until the closure of its business.  He then went to work for Walmart, working as a Stockman. He enjoyed meeting and greeting people. He also enjoyed various types of cars and guns, as well as hunting when his health allowed.  Whenever management offered him another position, Lester always replied firmly ‘No’.

On August 27, 2016, Lester was baptized in the Ware Creek Missionary Baptist Church Baptismal Pool and gave his life to God.  On Monday morning, January 1, 2024, at the age of 85, Lester departed this life at his home in Blounts Creek.  He fought a good fight, he finished his course, and he kept the faith.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory his loving wife Annie; two daughters: Janice (Mike) Mullins of Winterville, North Carolina, Harriet Ann Hooker of Gainesville, Florida; adoptive son: Chadquan Aldridge of Raleigh, North Carolina.  He also leaves two granddaughters: Chardell Gainey of Gainesville, Florida; Jasmine Mullins, in the US Army, in Virginia, Miquel Mullins, Winterville, North Carolina; and three great grandchildren. Sisters and Brothers he leaves to mourn are: Sisters, Evangelist Geraldine Blatch, Mother Annie Eure, Teresa Winfield; Bobbytine (Jobie), all of Belhaven, North Carolina, Eldress Vanessa (Steve) Bonner of Chocowinity, North Carolina, Erma W.
