Lillie M. Rountree, 72, died unexpectedly on May 1, 2021 in NYC. Lillie was born June 22, 1948, in Grimesland, NC. She was the daughter of the late Letha Rountree Howard and James Taft. Lillie joined White Oak MB Church at a very early age. There, she was an active member of Sunday School, and an Usher until she relocated to NYC. She attended and graduated from Pitt County Training School (PCTS)/G.R. Whitfield class of 1966. Following her graduation she moved to New York City. There, she attended City College and landed a job working for the City of New York as a Data Processor. In 1979, she was given an opportunity to work for the Morgan Station U.S.P.S., NYC. Lillie was a General Clerk. She gave the postal service 41 years of service and retired on December 30, 2020. Lillie is survived by three sisters, Renee Daniels of Baltimore, Maryland, Linda Faye Smith of Silver Springs, Maryland, and Phyllis Taft Price of Charlotte, North Carolina. One brother, Charles Howard Jr. of Grimesland, North Carolina. One foster brother, James Mills of the Bronx, New York, Denise Rountree – Moore, of Grimesland, North Carolina who was her niece but raised as her sister, Varnessa Horner of New Haven, CT., who she took on as her foster daughter after her mom passed, and one god son, Smythe M. Brown III. Lillie had many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention her sister friends, Sara Hollingsworth, Mae West Jones-Cook, Janis Aylers, Brenda Moultrie, Carrie Gordon, and Susan Wright. She was preceded in death by three sister’s: Mary Deaver, Rachel Moore and Nellie Streeter, and one brother Johnny Ray Moore. What we do know is, she loved God and her Convent Church family, she loved her family, bowling, the OES, and her Morgan Station family. Yes, she was a people person and had a zest for life. She traveled the world and was our family’s dancing machine.
