Martha Jane Barnes

     Martha Jane Barnes, age 72, was born January 27, 1951 to the late Martha Ann Stancil and Charlie Barnes.  She departed this life on Monday, May 29, 2023 at ECU Health Medical Center. 

    “Martha Jane” as she was affectionately known, attended Pitt County Schools.  She loved making quilts and volunteering at Pitt Memorial Hospital in the early 2000’s.

   Martha was loved by her family, and she loved them even more.  She also had a unique love for her phone and could recite all of the family’s telephone numbers and birthdays.

    She was preceded in death by her parents and twenty-seven siblings.

    She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Veronica Barnes of the home; one son, Ray Barnes of Lexington, North Carolina; three sister, Christine Hooks, Maggie McCray, and Theenie Meekins, all of Greenville, North Carolina; one granddaughter, Vonquail Bryant of Winterville, North Carolina; one grandson, Isaiah Barnes of Jacksonville, North Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
