For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

Mr. Milton Ray “Ray Man” Taft, was born on December 31, 1953 in Greenville, North Carolina to the late Floyd Coward and Ora Lee Taft. Milton departed this earthly life on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Herford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Hertford, North Carolina.
Milton attended Pitt County Schools and graduated from D. H. Conley High School. He served in the U.S. Army for 8 years and 5 months and worked at Bill Clark Construction Company for many years until his retirement. To keep himself occupied after retirement, he had a side job cutting grass and anyone that knew Milton knew he would have their yard looking good after he was done.
Milton was preceded in death by his late wife, Shirley Harris Taft; his sister, Janice Hooker; and longtime friend, Judy Andrews.
He leaves to cherish him memory, his son, Terrell Taft (Christal) of Greenville, North Carolina; his daughter, Melissa Smith of Durham, North Carolina; two sisters, Evangeline Moore and Sherri Taylor, both of Greenville, North Carolina; three sisters-in-law, Jennifer Nobles of Winterville, North Carolina, Deborah Harris and Brenda Nobles both of Greenville, North Carolina; six brothers-in-law, Gary Nobles of Greenville, North Carolina, Shelton Nobles of Greensboro, North Carolina, Troy Boyd, Ricky Boyd, James Boyd, and William Boyd, all of Ayden, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Donavan Jenkins, Ki’Zariah Corey, and Jayden Taft; a special niece, Veronica Moore; a special friend, Bob Swindell; and a host of nieces, nephews cousins, and friends.
