Willis Boyd began his journey through life on June 26, 1923, “Bill” as he was affectionately called, was born to the late Lee Boyd and Vilena Harris Boyd in Pitt County.
“Bill” grew up in the St. Peter Community. At an early age he began farm work and continued for many years until retirement.
“Bill” united in Christian Fellowship at the St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church in the early 70’s and remained a faithful member. He sang in the Male Chorus, served on the Usher Board as a Great Greeter. He also was a past member of the Pastor Aid Club and Home Mission.
“Bill” was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Deaconess Cellestine Chancey Boyd. Four daughters; Evangelist Evangeline Morning, Hattie Morning, Ella Jean Boyd, and Ernestine Langley. Four brothers; Lee Boyd, John Boyd, David Boyd, and Charlie Boyd. Three sisters; Ella Crandall, Mary Daniels, and Doris Boyd Harris. Three grandchildren; Charlene Boyd, Roger Morning, and Ricky Morning.
Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of; his children David (Melvin) Boyd, Gloria (James) Andrews, and Willis (Rolnel) Boyd Jr. all of Greenville, North Carolina. One son-in-law, James Morning of Greenville, North Carolina. Two brothers; Jasper (Willie B.) Boyd, and Arthur Boyd of both of Greenville, North Carolina. Four sister-in-law; Corrina Boyd, Lula Boyd, Gloria Boyd, and Alice Battle, all of Greenville, North Carolina. Nine grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
“Bill”, who never met a stranger, will forever be remembered for his strength, humility, willingness to help those in need, and his love for his family. service
